Stephan has joined CAN 2016 for clean energy policy implementation to meet the Paris objectives which requires decarbonisation of the energy sector, 100% renewables, by mid-century latest. CAN has more than 1100 CSO members. Stephan leads the work for CAN on “Geoengineering”, “negative emissions”. He is regular peer reviewer of the IEA WEO and of some IPCC work. Before CAN, Stephan was with WWF in various positions since 1993, latest as Global Director Energy Policy in Brussels where he was responsible for developing the organisational framework for promotion of 100% renewables since 2010. Before WWF, Stephan worked for four years with GIZ in India and Kenya on sustainable agriculture. He holds a PhD in soil physics and is addicted to Hamburg football club, FC St Pauli.
